Gerald Brown Memorial Scholarship 

Gerald A Brown was a CPR and science magnet instructor and a member of Clear Creek Swim League Board of Directors, Kappa Delta Phi and the National Federation of Inter-Scholastic Officials Association. He also was chosen Teacher of the Year in 1996 at Lockhart Elementary School where he was employed for five years and was a past president of the Deer Park Seal Team.

Gerald Brown Memorial Scholarship recognizes graduating senior swimmers who exemplify the values of our league both in and out of the pool. These awards celebrate not only athletic commitment, but also leadership, character, and the lasting impact of being part of a summer swim community. 

2026 Scholarship Application Timeline

  • Application Open: April 27, 2026
  • Application Close: June 15, 2026

Applications must be submitted by the deadline to be considered. Essay Requirement (Required for 2026) An essay is required for all applicants. Please note the following important guidelines:

  • Essay length: 500–750 words
  • Essays should reflect personal experiences and authentic reflection
  • There are no “right” answers — sincerity and thoughtfulness matter most
  • Essays may reference swimming, teammates, coaches, families, and the league
  • Essays will be checked for AI-generated content
    • Any submission identified as AI-generated will be disqualified

Clear Creek Swim League is built on the idea that summer swim is more than competition—it is community. In an essay, describe how being part of CCSL has helped shape your understanding of teamwork, belonging, and responsibility to others. Share one or more moments when you saw the CCSL community come together—whether through encouragement, service, leadership, or support—and explain how that experience has influenced the way you view your role in your team, school, or community today.

All seniors are welcome to apply.  Please remember each senior that applies will need to an approval code from their team president.   

Swim Scholarship

The CCSL Swim Scholarship Program is designed to provide temporary financial assistance to families who demonstrate a need for support with swim registration fees, while maintaining fairness, accountability, and full participation in league activities. Scholarships are funded through limited donations and are not guaranteed year to year. This scholarship is only available from April 1-May 1, 2026 and must be nominated by Team Presidents.

Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for a CCSL Swim Scholarship, families must meet all of the following criteria:

  • The swimmer(s) must be registered or intending to register with a CCSL‑member team.
  • Financial need must be verified and endorsed by the Team President.
  • Only Team Presidents may submit scholarship requests on behalf of families.
  • Families may receive a scholarship no more than once every two (2) years.
  • Scholarship assistance is limited to a maximum of four (4) athletes per family

Financial Assistance Provided

  • Scholarships will cover up to 80% of the CCSL registration fee per eligible swimmer.
  • The actual award amount may be less than 80% depending on:
    • Total donations available
    • Number of requests received
  • Teams may be offered assistance up to 80% of registration costs; remaining fees are the responsibility of the family.
  • All scholarships are contingent upon available funds and league approval.

Participation & Volunteer Requirements

Families receiving scholarship assistance must agree to the following participation commitments:

Swimmer Requirements:

  • Each swimmer must compete in at least three (3) CCSL meets during the season.

Parent / Guardian Volunteer Requirements:

  • Parent(s)/guardian(s) must volunteer at each meet in which the swimmer participates(minimum of three).
  • Families must also volunteer at the CCSL Championship Meet, regardless of swimmer participation level.
  • Failure to meet volunteer obligations may result in:
    • Loss of future scholarship eligibility
    • Requirement to repay all or part of the scholarship at CCSL discretion

Application & Approval Process

  • Applications are submitted by Team Presidents only, not individual families.
  • Team Presidents must verify:
    • Financial need
    • Family understanding of participation and volunteer obligations
  • CCSL will review applications and allocate funds based on:
    • Available donations
    • Number of requests received
    • Overall league participation needs
  • Approval is not automatic and is subject to league review.

Compliance & Enforcement

  • Families must remain in good standing with their team and CCSL.
  • Any misrepresentation of need or failure to meet requirements may result in:
    • Revocation of scholarship
    • Ineligibility for future CCSL assistance
    • CCSL reserves the right to amend or suspend the scholarship program based on funding availability.

Acknowledgment -By accepting a CCSL Swim Scholarship, families acknowledge and agree to all participation, volunteering, and conduct expectations outlined in this policy.
